I Am

I read a book by Wayne Dyer called Wishes Fulfilled. In it he explains very well about our higher self and our highest self.

Our higher self is our spirit, that part of us that is of God. We are all born of the same spirit. Every one of us. He uses the example of the ocean. There is a vast ocean and if you take a bucket and fill it from the water in the ocean, is it still ocean? Of course it is. The same is true for us born of the spirit of God. We are all buckets containing the same spirit within us. This is our higher self.

Our highest self is god within us and if he is in us we are equal to God, as one with him. Now, this isn’t the ego based God that humans have portrayed. This is the God who created all things from nothing and the Source of all being, who is formless and who is everywhere at all times. He has been portrayed as being this all-powerful being outside of you, but instead believe that “He who abides in love abides in God, and God in him”. I am God, God is love.

If we believe it is blasphemous to say “I am God” it is because we have taken on the God of the ego created by humans.

Therefore, when you can acknowledge God and you are one, you begin to see things in a different light. You begin to see from your highest self.

God’s name is “I Am”. So our name is “I Am” not “I am not”. When we say I’m not good enough or I can’t do that, or I’m not feeling well, we are saying God is all those things and that is absurd! When we realize we have the very essence of God within us, we begin to realize that I Am.

Now we need to retrain ourselves from “I am not” to “I am”. I am good enough, I am healthy, I am prosperous, I am able, I am loving. When we begin to live from this place of loving ourselves and recognizing God in us – it will transform our lives!

Jesus never said “I can’t make enough food for all these people” or “I can’t walk on water” because he knew he was God. “I and my Father are one” and “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end” When he said “I am the way” he wasn’t speaking of himself as a man who walks and talks, he was speaking as God.

The essence of God is within each one of us. The love, joy, peace and grace that Jesus portrayed is because he was so in tune with his Father's spirit within him, there was no separation.

How do we find the essence of God within us

Meditation is one way many have found a greater understanding of God within or, their higher self. Cultivate a deep knowing of who you are in your meditation practice. Ask questions, breathe deeply and listen to your body. What's it saying to you? Do you hurt in some areas, tight in others? What are you holding onto in those parts of your body? Is someone coming to mind that has caused you pain when you ask that question? They are coming to mind because God within you is wanting you to forgive and heal that part of your life.

Journaling is another way to get to the root of who you really are. Some journaling prompts could be:

  1. What does living authentically mean to me?

  2. How can I stay connected to myself?

  3. How can I show love to myself?

  4. What does my inner child need right now?

When you write in your journal, don't bother with punctuation or correct grammar. Just let your pen flow with whatever thoughts come. Do not censor your writing. Our connection to the heart of God depends on our connection to ourselves. If we don't feel love toward ourselves, if we are full of fear and doubt about who we are in the world we will have a more difficult time connecting with our higher self.

God is pure love that abides within you. Accept the fact that you and God are one. Allow yourself to question the beliefs you've held onto regarding your life and challenge yourself to go deeper to find the God within.
